My wife is extremely intolerant of Lactose. We recently discovered that a number of Kraft cheeses are 100% lactose free. My wife tried them and had no ill effects. I am also attaching a copy of the email I received from Kraft. They get rid of the lactose by removing the whey. The ones we successfully tried are Kraft Natural Shredded Mozzarella, Natural Shredded Sharp Cheddar, Natural Colby, and natural cheddar - both in the block.

The back of all these say "contains 0g of lactose per serving" We are eating toasted cheese sandwiches, cheese enchiladas, etc.

I hope this helps those of you as lactose intolerant as my wife.

Kraft Answer:
Thanks for visiting our Web site, and for taking a minute out of your day to
inquire about the lactose in KRAFT Cheese.

While I can't give you the lactose levels of all our products, I can give
you some specific details about lactose in our cheeses. Many natural or
ripened cheeses can be tolerated by people who are sensitive to lactose
because they don't have a measurable amount of lactose. Natural cheeses are
products like CRACKER BARREL Natural Cheese, KRAFT Natural Cheese (brick,
slices and shreds) and KRAFT 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese. In natural
cheeses the lactose is removed with the whey during processing. Unripened
cheese such as cottage cheese, cream cheese and processed cheeses like
VELVEETA and American SINGLES often have several grams of lactose per
serving. Cultured dairy products like yogurt with live and active cultures
can help in lactose digestion. Many people with lactose sensitivity find
they can eat cultured products with few if any problems.

Hello,
My husband is also extremely lactose intolerant. A tablespoon of Kraft grated parmesan(the green shaker can) sent him into 5 days of pain. Is your wife this sensitive?

I sympathize with people who have lactose intolerance, but I stay far away from Kraft products. Kraft was untrustworthy enough as a food conglomerate before, but now that Phillip Morris(aka "Altrea")bought Kraft, I stay far away from them. Phillip Morris did not and still does not give a flip about the health of millions of Americans, and is still going about the business of hooking children on tobacco, and spreading its filthy product throughout the world. Meanwhile, Kraft is selling genetically-modified foods to the public, even though no one knows what the health effects of such genetic modification will be ten or twenty years down the road.

You might find some of the goat cheese products sold at large health food stores to be very good. My wife brought home a wonderful wine cheddar raw goat cheese not long ago. I have heard that people who are lactose intolerant often can handle goat cheese well.

But truly, I would steer CLEAR of Kraft products!
