Hi optimisst,
If it comes from complementary medicine and you can not find any evidence I would leave it alone, there is more untruths told in complementary medicine than any other field I have ever studied.
Herbal medicine is 90% untruths.
Homeopathy is 100% water, and if it has a memory of the original molecule as stated by homeopaths, then it also must have a memory of all of the bladders and sewerage pipes it has been through as well, I wouldn't want to drink it if this is true, but science tells you it isn't true.
Chiropractic offers a lot of risk with minimal benefit, certainly these benefits can be achieved by Physio's or massage therapists with a lot less risk. Bones out of place does not cause diseases such as asthma or migraines, as the chiros claim, research has shown other culprits to be the cause. Innate intelligence (akin to a life force or vital energy) interrupted by subluxations ( a slightly misaligned spine) is rubbish. This has never been found regardless of all attempts using the most sophisticated equipment.
Acupuncture is mainly placebo according to Edzard Ernst/Simon Singh "Trick or Treatment" alternative title "Alternative Medicine On Trial". Acupuncture also talks about the force channels just discussed. Scientists think that if you really wanted manipulation you should see an Osteopath because they have studied the medical sciences in much greater depth.
Then you have supplements where the hype is much greater than the truth ( some are good), and all of these weird diagnostic devices that are no better than divining rods, such as vega machines, iridology etc.
As a Naturopath practising evidence based medicine I only use proven herbal medicine, remedial massage, nutrition, and counselling.
Cheers
