Hello,
I am a forty year old woman and a chronic patient of asthma. I was diagnosed with the disease in my early twenties when I had repetitive bouts of cold, cough followed by wheezing. No amount of medication has helped me so far to get rid of this problem. Asthma attacks keep recurring.

I have has asthma since birth, because I was born three months premature. When I was younger, my doctor would throw inhalers at me. I never felt any better because of it(although my mother would argue that I never took them). I hated all the symptoms that I had. Mind you it could have been because of the inhalers, nebulizer, or prednisone. I got upset one day, and decided I wasn't going to be their lab rat. I would take the medication if your asthma is severe, while you explore alternatives.
I once rented a film, I believe called "Yoga for Asthma". It was in India, so the pronunciation was a little difficult at first. Not all of the people have money for inhalers, so this showed exercises that could be done in the event of an attack.
The most helpful thing is to remain calm throughout, being terrified doesn't do anyone any good. Take deep calming breathes. Stress has an impact on our bodies as well. My asthma flares up when I am stressed. Hope this helps!
