why are antioxidants important in childrens nutrition.
melisadenny
Nutrition is the power source that enables the body to function properly and keeps it healthy. The supply of nutrition furnished to the body via intake of various food items enables it to carry out all the body functions appropriately, enabling it to protect itself from invasion of viruses, bacteria and toxins. Your body's internal production of antioxidants is not enough to neutralise all the free radicals. You can help your body to defend itself by increasing your dietary intake of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are important not only in our children's nutrition, but in ours as well.

The empty, processed and chemically distorted food we eat creates massive amounts of toxicity within our body. The body will do its best to remove these toxins through our daily processes of elimination. Often
this overwhelms our bodies, which react by displaying symptoms of common illnesses such as diarrhea, congestion, the common cold or flu, infections, skin rashes and more.

Treatments for these ailments are often restricted to quick fix medicines which only suppress the symptoms.
Unfortunately, these traditional medicines don’t allow our bodies to eliminate these toxins. In fact, they often exacerbate the problem by putting the system under additional strain. Our bodies will then have to find a place to store these toxins where they will not harm our vital organs. So the body will often surround the toxins and poisons with fat, thus allowing our bodies to continue with day-to-day activities. As time goes on and we accumulate more and more toxins with no way for our bodies to eliminate them. This buildup often weakens certain organs within our system promoting disease. Once the toxins are eliminated, the body quickly releases the fat that was used to protect your vital organs. This means that not only do you quickly lose the extra weight, but you also feel healthier, more energetic and often years younger.

Most phytochemicals have antioxidant activity and protect our cells against oxidative damage and reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer.

Hi StayHealthy2009,

I can't agree with a lot these comments, what "The empty, processed and chemically distorted food" does this refer to, because if you are saying that all food is de-natured you are simply wrong. This reference to toxins that keeps on popping up on here is pretty well worn and disproved as well, the colon is a smooth walled organ serviced by involuntary muscle that create a wave like motion called peristalis, that moves the materials from digestion continuously to the exit point, no fecal packing is found in examinations by specialists, so it doesn't exist.

Some fat soluble chemicals can be absorbed into fatty tissue, but fatty tissue does not grow to seal them off like you are saying, excessive amounts of fat soluble vitamins for example can be accumulated in fatty tissue, but water soluble chemicals are not absorbed and passes into urine.

Show me an example of how a flu can be caused by processed food please? Viral and bacterial entry into the body for colds and flu are usually via drops of moisture from sneezing or similar or contamination of food by moisture droplets such as when people sneeze on their hands, don't wash them and then touch someones food, is not what you are talking about here, so if you can clarify this point I would be grateful.

I am a Naturopath (BNat) and the only people that talk like this over here are the old traditionally trained naturopaths, not those trained in science, what is your training?

I have a lot more to say about this but unfortunately business interferes with pleasure and a patient has arrived. biggrin.gif
