I m in a discussion with a friend whom just join a gym to build up muscle, abt what's helpful for building muscle. Apparently this friend of mind has been told that protein supplements not only builds muscle but can make u fat n iron supplements is helpful n can b used instead. Can anyone help clarify this for me?

Both protein and iron supplementation may be helpful in general.
However, if you want to gain muscles, you will need to consume plenty of lean protein, complex carbs, and some healthy fats. Chicken, turkey, eggs, fish, low-fat cottage cheese and also food supplements are good sources of protein. Whey protein powders are especially important to be consumed post workout, as they can supply your body with aminoacids very quickly which is key in muscle building. Iron is less important and does not replace protein in this role.

Dexter is so right about whey, infact undenatured whey is even better for all around cellular protection.
