This little fat Greek man I have known for thirty years, we have spoken thousands of words about health, he has read hundreds of health articles that I have written in papers, but he still utters the same words that he uttered thirty years ago, he is a speed demon when it comes to learning.

He stands 1.65mtrs ( 5ft 5" tall, vertically challenged) but he weighs 100 kgs (15st 10 lbs) = BMI 36.7

He works shift work and this is his excuse, he can not exercise like normal people, he eats a good mediterranean diet, yeah right, he eats enough for half of the mediterranean region.

He claims that he comes from a long line of big boned Greeks. I explained that it is his belly that is big not his bones and they are quite different in composition, one is soft tissue and one is hard tissue.

He read my health article last week about the Adelaide researcher that claims they have discovered that half of the population have a fat causing gene called MTHFR Polymorphism gene which prevents the conversion of folic acid to it's fat burning form, folinic acid, so you accumulate fat.

He says he might have this. I don't know how he even understood my article because the editor edited it so hard I didn't understand it and I wrote it!!

People will blame anything but themselves for their problems, time will tell if this gene exists, and is responsible for weight gain, but we know a negative caloric balance will work, unless extreme negative caloric balance is aimed for.

Eating slightly less calories than you burn up has stood the test of time, and weight loss is assured, if you stick at it for long enough.
