I was just reading some of the advice given by "our learned friends" and it is no wonder so much rubbish is peddled so hard on here. I think a new meaning is appropriate for these degrees when used in this manner, actually an old University that called it's doctorate simply Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil), derogatorily renamed these degrees many years ago.
They said BS, MS, PhD was short for Bull S... More of Same Piled higher and Deeper.
MD in this context probably stands for Maximum Danger
Seriously these degrees take a large slice out of your life to gain them and they should be placed on a very high pedestal, but how can you look up to people with these degrees, who prostitute them for money, supplying information they know to be false.
These degrees mean you are conversant with good research methodology, and understand the meaning of evidence. A lot of the "panels of experts" belong to this group, cash for comment exponents.
When someone with a higher degree such as M.S. or PhD says something is true look for the research because in a lot of cases the advice is simply untrue.
