Hi All,
I found out after going to the Emergency Room and spending all nite there that I have Diverticulitis. I have done a search and came accross this site so I thought I would ask and see if anyone can send me some information on a good low fiber diet initially and then a good High Carb Diet that I could follow? I must admit that I have not eaten all that well throughout my life and now I want to make a change for the better. Thank you for any information you can provide.
Thanks,
Ian
Hi Kissle,

Sorry to hear about your Diverticulitis. Unless I am missing something, isn't there a postulation that Diverticulitis may be caused by a low fiber diet? So you should be looking for a high fiber diet no?

Constipation makes the muscles strain to move stool that is too hard. It is the main cause of increased pressure in the colon. This excess pressure might cause the weak spots in the colon to bulge out and become diverticula. Fiber keeps stool soft and lowers pressure inside the colon so that bowel contents can move through easily. The American Dietetic Association recommends 20 to 35 grams of fiber each day.

If so, check out this High Fiber Foods page. It has a list of some high fiber foods.

Hope this helps!
Gloria
i'm sorry that you are not feeling well chris. it's common to have a clear fluid diet, followed by a soft texture diet and then move on to a high fiber diet for diverticulitis. you may check out the high fiber page Ian posted. there is also a good handout on diverticulosis you may like to take a look http://www.dialadietitian.org/media/downlo...ts/diet-div.pdf

good luck. pls keep us posted.
