Your chronic yeast infections may bew caused by some of the foods you are eating or if you have been on antibiotics for prolong periods of time. I would keep a log of foods that you eat regularly and make an appointment with you gynocologist for further evaluation and treatment.

Hi Tracey,

I have friends that have the same problem, another similar problem is bacterial vaginosis.
Basically it is a PH imbalance, the wrong bacteria can thrive in the right environment, warm and oxygen-less.
Doctors can prescribe antiobiotics, but this can result in a vicious cycle as the antibiotics can kill the bacteria but also the ''good bacteria' and then the bad bacteria tend to return and you are back to the start again.
There is an alternative option. "Vagiclear" by Higher Nature, a high potency probiotic formula to restore vaginal health. It is a suppository. You can find the website at www.highernature.co.uk
This can help your symptoms however I would look at the underlying imbalance which causes a yeast overgrowth. Some friends have tried cutting out alcohol, caffeine, sugar, bread and yeast from their diet and supplementing a probiotic to restore the ''good bacteria and it hass helped them immensely.

Yeast overgrowth is usually considered to be an overgrowth of the bowel flora called Candida. Candida needs to be there, but at no more than 10% of the bowel flora. When given a free reign it can mutate into fungal form. There are fungal-antibiotics that will kill it, but then, after treatment you need to use pro-biotics to make sure your "good" bowel bacteria builds up first to keep it in check. Forget about yoghurts, you need a powdered form of pro-biotics to do this job.

Candida can also be killed by wild oregano oil, but it must be wild, and you cannot do it by eating oregano.

It s possible that coconut oil also kills candida overgrowth, either by direct contact, or more slowly by eating it. If you eat it, you need to start small (tsp) and work up (tblsp). I quite enjoy it with hot diluted lemon juice as a drink.

The original overgrowth is often caused by the "good" bacteria in the bowel being killed off by anti-biotics or the contraceptive pill, or not being fed correctly with wholesome foods.

Good luck!

Hi Tracy,

I was researching the immune system yesterday and came across a snippet that might help: One is more susceptable to yeast infection when the immune system is low. Possibly the main player is insufficient carotene levels. (The encyclopedia of Nutritional supplements Michael T Murray). He suggests a very high dose of beta-carotene for one or two days may boost the immune system sufficiently and is safe.

Beta-carotene is found in green plants, such as green peppers, spinach and orange foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes and apricots. Whatever else you do try to include more of these into your diet.

Just one more thing a healthy diet can do for you.
