hey jsteez,

I was wondering why you have taken HFCS out of your diet?

Also, what type of products would contain HFCS? I am Curious.

Hi,

Excellent decision to take HFCS out of the diet.

HFCS is used mainly in soft drinks as a replacement for sugar. It is cheaper.

You cannot buy it in the shops (at least not in the UK).

It has been linked to the progression of obesity and type 2 diabetes (Fatland, Greg Critser). It seems to mess with enzymes in the liver promoting fat storage.

Corn syrup is still sugar & empty calries and may have detrimental effects in the long run.

You cannot win. "Diet" drinks contain Aspartane, another controversial substance.

If you want to stay healthy, soft drinks will just not help.

Cheers,
Icprnsess

Jsteez Did you ever findout the answer to your question in reference to corn syrup vs high fructose corn syrup? I have been attempting to discover if corn syrup is just as bad as the HFC also.If you have made any pertinent discoveries please do share them with us.

Thanks

Hi,
It appears the reality is HFCS(high fructose corn syrup) and corn syrup are different products with different functions. Corn syrup, which is mainly glucose, is used as a non-sweet thickener and HFCS is made of almost equal portions of fructose and glucose and is used as a sweetener. wink.gif
Not sure if one is worse than the other though. mellow.gif
