Since learning about Palm Kernal Oil that is widely used in candy and known to be bad for heart disease, what is the real truth about that, since I have just read that they put it in non hydrogenated butter to help it spread better. How can this be good for your heart if this is so bad for you? Any follow up discussion would be greatly appreciated.[/COLOR]

hi peggy, palm kernel oil is high in saturated fat. it is solid at room temperature and that's why some non-hydrogenated margarine add a tiny amount of palm kernel oil so that they can avoid hydrogenating liquid vegetable oil and hence it's trans fat free. so u really need to look at the label of your non-hydrogenated margarine and make sure it contains less than 2g of saturated fat. if it contains more than 2g - they added too much palm kernel oil!! i was curious to check the labels of all non-hydrogenated margarine at my grocery store just a month ago - many of them are less than 2g!
