I do eat the seeds, I like the taste of them believe it or not. Recently someone informed me that the seeds have something in them that are harmful to your health, they couldn't tell me what exactly. I would never have guessed that they're harmful considering we eat seeds in lots of other fruit. blink.gif

yeah you are right - othe seeds are actually beneficial to health. um....i actually never thought of this before. unfortunately i don't know the answer - i will do some research laugh.gif

Yes apple pips are a big issue, believe it or not.

They contain cyanide in a form called latrieil or vitamin B17. Some people claim that it is poison other claim it kills cancer cells.

cyanide!!!! that's bad!! ok i guess i don't really need to wait for the answers from my friends at the food science faculty to get back to me to stay away from apple seeds.

I would not jump to conclusions!

All seeds/kernels contain cyanide to a greater or lesser extents. Its more concentrated in Apricot kernels, but some is found in almonds. The cyanide is bound to other compounds and can be handled by normal cells. Abnormal cells do not have the means to handle it and it kills them - at least according to the references I posted.
