unsure.gif Hi,
1. I was recently diagnosed with accute Diverticulitis. Since the diagnosis I have had a very difficult time trying to find the right diatary program for my ailment that will also assist in my continuing efforts to loose weight. Can I get any suggestions on the right weight loss program that is sensitive to my disease.

2. Another issue that has been of great concern is the amount of gas that I have been having since the diagnosis. What foods should I avoid in order to reduce this problem?

3. I workout two hours a day three times a week, but it seems that everytime I feel like I'm getting back to my exercise routine I have another attack. Are my physical activities bringing on my attacks?

4. Last, but not least: I had my appendix removed last year. Less than two weeks after my surgery, I had severe cramping and pain. I went to the emergency room and was giving medication for IBS. I was prescribed the same medication six months later when I once again doubled in pain. I changed doctors and found out about the Diverticulitis at that time. Could the surgery have aggrevated my colon enough to bring the desease to exsistance?

Despirate for answers,
Lionheart

i'm sorry for what you've gone thru lionheart - it must be very tough. i agree with you, diverticulitis is not age-related at all! i'm afraid i don't have answers to your questions. but thought to direct you to mayo clinic which they have a thorough write-up about it http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diverticu...0070/DSECTION=1

Hi Lionheart, I to have had Diverticulitis for a long time and have just gone through a flare up again and I can sympitize with you. It is very painful. Mine started with a very soar spot in my left side after constipation, I was put on a liquid diet and 2500MG of antibotics for a week, Then when that was over I had dark stool which alarmed me because I always heard that is a sign of bleeding somewhere. After 3 days that changed but now I have diarrhea every time I eat especially in the morning sending me to the bathroom 4-5 times before it calms down, It is very painful.

If you will go on Google and type in Diet for Diverticulitis I am sure you will come up with some help as what to eat.

Good Luck

Hi annie Thanks your suggested link to Mayo Clinis helped me understand my present problem, Looks like the 2500MG of antibotic may have caused the problem with diarrhea. I suspected the large amount of meds could cause some problems, Guess its a wait and see now.

Medications. Diarrhea can also be a side effect of many medications, particularly antibiotics. Antibiotics destroy both good and bad bacteria, which can disturb the natural balance of bacteria in your intestines. This disturbance sometimes leads to an infection with bacteria called Clostridium difficile, which can also cause diarrhea.
