Hi,

I have a brother who is underweight around 47 kgs wt and height of 162 cms. He was very underweight for past 30 years since he was born. He started from 6 months back to eat diet food with high calories & proteins like eggs, fish, meat, veggies, milk, protein supplements, fruits- bananas etc. This has paid him benefits and he gained 5 kgs in those 6 months.

As I am not aware of energy drinks, anyone having experience please let me know if energy drinks like Red bull, Rockstar will also give positive results on his weight gaining interest.

I would like to add that I suggest my brother to have energy drink until he gains weight and stop later as they have lot of caffeine which is harmful for health.

Please give me response asap.

Thanks
Shilpa

welcome to the board! the key to gaining healthy weight is to add healthy foods - so i don't think energy drinks is a good option here. what your brother can do is to do so subtly in a way that he can maintain this habit. e.g add peanut butter to sandwiches, switch from skim milk to 2% or whole, sprinkle extra cheese on dishes, make high protein/high calories breakfast smoothies, use milk instead of water when preparing oatmeal etc. if he is interested in commercial product to help, he may try Boost or Ensure drinks. These nutrient-dense drinks are nutritionally balanced with all the vitamins and minerals. i think they also come in high protein formula as well. they are definitely a much healthier option than energy drinks laugh.gif

just my 2 cents smile.gif

Hi Annie,

Thanks for your reply.

Hi, I agree with Annie's recommendations. Your brother should try to stick to as healthy a diet as possible and consider trying the Ensure. I have a friend whose young son was a pretty picky and finicky eater and was not gaining weight so she added Ensure to his daily diet. He is now 6 and the doc thinks he is overweight though he looks fine to me. Of course your brother is an adult, but it just might help him gain a little. Here's to his good health! smile.gif
