Full Version: Restricted Diet -- Need nutrition facts on foods...

I need to know the breakdown for foods...(i.e. carbohydrates (sugars); fat; etc. per food item).

I really need to know about pomegranates. I know they are good for you...but I need to know if they will be good for me.

I am on a VERY restricted fat/sugar food lifestyle after having a pancrease attack (and gallbladder attacks) - and then being diagnosed for chronic pancreatitis and diabetis because of it.

After spending a month in the hospital, I was told to stay away from fatty foods, including all oils, avocados, etc. I am on a VERY restricted fat diet -- 25-50g per day max. but to stay closer to 25g. Sugar to a certain degree is o.k. (I was told watch the carbs more than the individual sugar content since it all turns to sugar anyway, minus the fibre).

I've come up with some wonderful home-made recipes (or tricks) to have tasty meals...too bad restaurants don't do the same!

There are some foods that people say have healthy fats -- olive oil, salmon (the fat part), avocados, etc. I MUST stay away from these types of fats too - ALL oils, etc.

What about pomegranates? Do they have fat? (I read they have 25g sugar). Are the seeds liable to present a problem with digestion or would they just pass through? I love this fruit and want the health benefits...but will they cause me problems as I don't want to end up back in the hospital, or worse - dead form another attack.

Please help if you know the facts... Thank you! unsure.gif

According to the USDA food database, an average-sized pomegranate contains:

0.5 g fat
25 g carb
1.5 g protrein

Nuts and seeds in general are higher in fat. So if you are concerned about fat, skip the seeds. Since you are on a restricted diet due to pancreatitis, it is best to consult your dietitian or doctor when you add new foods to your diet.
