I'm very sorry that you are in so much pain. What you described seems to be excruciating, which is quite unusal for GERD. I hope your doctor is able to find out the cause. If one doctor can't help you, find another one. You shouldn't be suffering.

I hope you will get well soon.

Best wishes.

how have you been getting on? I suffer from this as well, so i know greatly what pain you're feeling.
PM if you want to talk about it.

Have you been checked for pancreas problems? You sound like me when I'm having an attack!

Hi In-Pain 2,
As Craigkat asked "Have you been checked for Pancreas problems"- inflammation or stones. I would imagine your GP would have cleared this by xray. Do you smoke cigarettes? When you say it feels like reflux can you qualify that, do you taste bile?
If all of these are clear it is possible that it is a neuromuscular condition such as Serratus Posterior Inferior.
What sort of work/activity do you do primarily?.Does it involve a lot of twisting from the waist? Keep looking and don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions it is your health after all.

If you're taking antacids or acid blockers for your heartburn, you're not solving your problem. You're only treating its symptoms. What is more, you may be giving your body the exact opposite treatment it needs to heal.

If you have heartburn, you need more acid, not less. Reason being that heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease are often caused by too little acid, not too much! Taking too much prescription drugs like Maalox& Prilosec etc can contribute to rheumatoid arthristis, asthma, allergies, depression and osteoporosis.

As we get older, our stomachs produce less and less acid, the result is bloating and indigestion. What is happening to people with heartbuen is probably due to malfunctioning of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). What you probably need to do is stop consuming those foods that can cause weakening of the LES. Some of these foods to avoid would be coffee, cholocate, alcohol, any type of mints, onions, refined sugar and any stuff that are made from white flour, white sugar and white rice.

Try to consume foods that contain the enzyme pepsin and stuff with good friendly bacteria like yoghurt with acidophilus. Lemon juice is also a good substitute to hydrochloric acid found in the stomach.. However, it is better to check with your doctor first before proceeding with any kind of remedy.
