Rudy
This is my own success story. I took it directly off the website that I'm building. If anyone wants to take a look at this website, it can be found at www.cancertips.org.

Diagnosis
My name is David. I am a very avid soccer player. For a long time, I kept having pain in my right knee. So we did the typical, thinking it was some soccer injury that I never let completley heal: I iced it, rested it, and took advil for the pain. However, during the later summer and early fall of 2003, the pain became too painful when I was active. So I had an x-ray taken.

On October 9th, 2003, I had a surgical biopsy on the tumor that was found in my knee. A few days later, I got the phone call; it was cancer. The first diagnosis was Pre-B cell lympho-blastic lymphoma. When this diagnosis came in, my doctors wanted me to start two years of chemotherapy immediatley. Instead of following the doctors' recomendations to start right away, we decided to get a second opinion. As anybody would, We also wanted to do some research on any alternative treatments. My mom was the biggest proponent for a second opinion, and fought our doctors to hold off on beginning chemo. It was worth it.

We were put in touch with the National Institute of Health, which is a government program funded by tax-payers' money. They agreed to give us their diagnosis for free! When their diagnosis came back, it was large B-cell lymphoma. One of the world's best lymphoma pathologists made the diagnosis. Because of this, we obviously took her word.

Treatment
During the fall, I found a local nutrionist who put me on a strict diet, and put me on a lot of supplements. The goal was to build up my body's immune system, and strengthen it so that when or if I did get chemo, I would be albe to stay healthy and strong. We continued to look for different treatment options, going to different doctors, and we couldn't find what we wanted. Finally, we were put in touch with a retired oncologist in Virginia, who referred us to a woman who had authored a book about her cancer experience and lived near us. We then found what we were looking for.

She put us in touch with a small medical center in the northern suburbs of Chicago. The Block Medical Center has an integrative approach to treatments - along with chemo, they strss diet, supplements, excercise, and much more. After taking a trip, we knew it was the right place to be.

In the spring of 2004, I began my 1st of 4 rounds of chemotherapy. As well as nutrition, the Block Medical Center has a different way of administering one of the certain chemo agents. Instead of recieving it quickly in a two hour period like most doctors do, they designed a small, portable pump that would slowly pump the same amount of chemo into a person for 72 hours. It worked! The side effects I had were not nearly as bad as I was expecing them to be. As of Thursday, June 4th, 2004, I finished my last week of chemotherapy.

Along side the treatments
Throughout the fall, spring, and early summer, I was blessed to have many friends and family reach out. Many prayers were offered up on my behalf. God was faithful and good. He continued to provide for us at the times we needed most. An example of this is that we were put in touch with some great resources. Angel Flights (see www.cancertips.org/resources.php) ended up giving me two trips of Chicago and back. An organization helped cover our bills. But most importantly, the prayers of many people were offered up on my behalf.

I am now doing great, and am staying extremely busy with work, etc. I am also staying busy working on this site. I hope and pray that it will be of good resources and encouragement to someone affected by cancer - either a patient themselves, or a friend or family member.

Please email us at info@cancertips.org if we can help you in any way.

before you took the chemo, in one year period while you were preparing for the chemo;diet, exercising etc., didn't you suffer from the pain?
Rudy
Actually, there was not a 1 year lag from diagnosis to chemo.

I was diagnosed in October of last year. I started chemo in May of this year.

As for pain, once I had the biopsy on the tumor in October, I didn't have any, because the surgeon took out most of it.

I just found this site when I was looking for some other information and read your story David and was pleased at the results. I am glad that more people are looking at alternative and complimentary medicines and supplements to assist our traditional medical options. I don't have cancer (that I am aware of) but had other wellness issues that traditional medicine couldn't find a cause or cure for after a myriad of tests. I used to take 8 or more very strong pain killers a day two or three times a week for a couple of years just so I could actually get through the day. I eventually got desperate enough to look at alternative options and heard about glyconutrients and tried them. I got my quality of life back within a couple of months and haven't had a pain killer in over 12 months. The success stories I have heard from others are amazing, these glyconutrients work at cellular level so they deal with all our body and what ails it. As they are nutritional based I thought you might like to know a bit more about them. Let me know if you do.
Cheers Bruce.

Sounds like quite a story, Bruce. I'm glad your doing better now.

Bruce
Thanks David,
Can I ask what diet your nutritionist put you on, was it Low Glycemic or a some other particular style? Also what were the supplements they recommended you take?
Since starting to get healthy I look at all manner of different things so that I can be better informed before making choices as to what we eat or use.

Unfortunately I have to go out now but will check back later.
Thank you for your reply and have a great day.
Cheers Bruce

After having so many people ask me about it, I think that's something I'm going to put onto the website.

As for my diet, I was taken off dairy, sugar, white flour and unorganic meats.

I was told to eat only organic meats (meats that have no growth hormones, etc..) I was told to try and eat organic fruits and vegitabls.

Thos are the main things.
