With the increasing popularity of complementary medicine it seems appropriate to ask this question.
We have Osteo-paths- Naturo-paths - Homoeo -paths
In Australia we have very scientific Naturopaths emerging from some Universities/Colleges since the Government changed legislation in 1995 to allow them to teach to Bachelor Degree, which included a lot of science and research, but we still have a lot of people refusing to adopt science, so in effect we have the traditional naturopath and the scientific naturopath. Registration is just around the corner ( we think) and Bachelor Degree will be the entry point. Osteopaths have been registered since 1977. Homoeopaths are not being discussed.
In Australia we must have a different system to America, while it is now possible to do a Bachelor Degree in either Nutrition or Dietics they do not have their own registration board so anyone can call themselves a Dietition or Nutritionist. These degrees were not available when I commenced my studies in 1978, Diploma was the highest you could do, and I did it ( Diploma of Nutritional Science).
More than 60% of people here attend complementary medicine clinics and it is a huge market and growing rapidly. The Australian Government set up a committee of experts and they recommended they register and regulate Naturopaths/Western Herbalists in Australia, that was 3 years ago and we have just had a change of Government so we will see what happens now.
Do you go to a Path??
