Red yeast rice does lower one's cholesterol, but cholesterol is NOT the cause of heart disease. It is only a marker, and along with other symptoms may indicate CAD. Many people who have elevated cholesterol never have heart problems; while some who have low cholesterol do. This inconsistency shows that cholesterol itself is not the problem, but some other factors are involved in order for one to have heart problems.
So forget both the red rice and the statin drugs--lowering your cholesterol only gives you a false security. And on top of all that; the statins, among other side effects, may damage the liver.

Great thoughts Edward... I agree with what you're saying. People overlook the fact that lower cholesterol doesn't mean you're evading heart disease. Thanks for the liver information... I was unaware of the detrimental side effects.
