Not sure what the views are about atkins here, but I thought I'd ask about it anyway. Does anyone have a success/disaster story they'd like to share? I'd just gathering information at this point. Are there any recommendations of any resources besides the book and the DVD? The DVD just came out BTW for those of you that are interested. Good deal, I think. Anyway, let me know.

I made this post about Atkins a while back. You might find some info in this highly discussed thread.

I heard on the radio that the hype of the low/no-carb diet is fading away. People are again eating more pasta and bread!

No more social pressure to worry when I indulge in chocolate cakes smile.gif

i tried atkins for a bit, but found it really hard to stick to. and it's hard to eat all that fat based food cause i know it can't be all good despite what they say, but thats just my opinion.

i also found that i only lost water weight in the first few days, then didn't lose any... (but that could be because i didn't have much to lose, they say it's best for people who have a lot to lose)

i think it's best to focus on making your carbs good rather than none at all. high fiber is really important for your intestines etc. and a low carb diet like atkins means that you generally arn't getting enough fiber.

you can learn alot about it at the atkins website, and if you search for the "atkins forum'' in google, you'll get some people to talk to about sucess stories and how they're going.... alot of them lose a huge amount of weight... but you must remember that it's a life change thing, it's not a fad diet, so to speak. if you wanna stay of carbs to have to introduce them back very slowly... otherwise you could gain back much faster and more than what you lost.

tell me if you need more info smile.gif

Atkins definitely works. I personally watched one of my clients lose 75 pounds on a hybrid of the Atkins and SouthBeach diet. It is also definitely a lifestyle change and it can be a little challenging interacting with the rest of the eating world when your diet requirements are so specific. I personally prefer the Weight Watchers approach but if that doesn't work for you then a low carb diet is definitely a vaible option.

hi ams, many local libraries now stock diet books so i'd suggest you to go borrow one and read one if you wish to know more in details. mayoclinic did a short summary on 8 popular diet books out there in the market if you are interested to compare them at a glance.
