Numbers to know for a Healthy Heart

Many of us probably have memorized the ideal total cholesterol level or blood pressure readings, do we know other vital numbers such as HDL, fasting blood sugar, or daily fiber intake?

The American Heart Association (AHA) released a pocket printable guide which shows important numbers and goals you need to reach to keep your heart healthy and strong. For a complete list of vital numbers, please click the AHA link at the bottom of this article.

Some Vital Numbers to Remember
Total Cholesterol
Triglycerides
Blood Pressure
BMI
Fiber Intake
< 200 mg/dL (5.2 mmol/L)
< 150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L)
<120 / 80 mmHg
< 25
25 - 30 g

Cholesterol NumbersMessage: For a sensible heart smart diet, include at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables and 3 servings of whole grains a day. Choose leaner meats and low-fat dairy. Limit the intake of both saturated fats and trans fat - instead choose foods high in omega 3 fatty acids such as fish and nuts. In addition, choose wholesome fresh foods instead of packaged foods, which are often high in calories and sodium.
