| Interesting to hear. I have been on a gluten free diet (among other things) since I had my daughter 28 months ago. My daughter has also had to be on a gluten free diet for the last 8 months. We both have severe cases of celiac!
My daughter also suffers from severe allergies to dairy, eggs, red meat, pork, chicken, casein, soy, sweet potatoes, msg and so on. I have been working with a dietitian since we found out about these allergies when she was 20 months old.
I have to say that the labelling in Canada is HORRIBLE! So many things that contain wheat dont say it (peanut butter is one of them!!! We only use PC brand all natural peanut butter made with just peanuts! It's the only one that seems to be gluten free!)This was very helpful, and I am now exploring Shelley's website! |

| Oats don't contain gluten but most oat products are processed in plants that are not gluten free. The label would have to state that they were gluten free or processed in a gluten free plant/area to ensure the product wasn't exposed to gluten. |

| I don't know much about about it, which is the reason I' ve subscribed to this site.
I like very much about what this author has said. In the last part when she said: "The very helpful part that a lot of people find extremely useful is I have over 3,100 gluten-free speciality products listed by category and company name. I also have a directory of more than 270 US, Canadian and ......." at the end of the article, should be a kind of free public information, for all those people that have no access to her publication includind access to library. She should provide this as a free service.
thanks |

| I'm hearing more lately about a fecal test for gluten intolerance - is this valid? |

| What is the name of the blood test that you've recommended? I am thinking of getting one done as I think I may be gluten sensitive, too. Thank you. |

| The most sensitive and specific blood screening tests for celiac disease are IgA tissue transglutaminase (TTG) and IgA endomysial antibody (EMA). These screening tests can be helpful however the only definitive way to confirm the diagnosis of celiac disease is a small intestinal biopsy where at least 4-6 biopsy samples are taken. Stool(fecal) testing for celiac disease has not been validated in peer review medical journals. It is not a recommmended test for diagnosis of celiac disease. |

| Oats do not contain gluten however most oats are cross contaminated with wheat, rye and barley during growing, harvesting, transporting and processing. However, there are a number of companies producing pure, uncontaminated oats that are grown on dedicated fields and use dedicated equipment. For more specific information about gluten-free oats check out my website at glutenfreediet dot ca and click on about gluten-free diet and then oats. |
